Max is Back!!

Maxime Lacroix In Action For The Steelers

Anyone who was at the game against the Nottingham Panthers on Boxing Day were in for a big surprise! Not only did we defeat the Panthers 2-0 and keep a shut out but we had a nice surprise during the pre-game warm ups and that was that Maxime Lacroix was on the Ice warming up with his team mates however he didn't feature in the boxing day game but it was a sight that the players loved to see.

Lacroix has been missing since September when he unfortunately broke his foot on the 21st September away in Nottingham at the National Ice Center. As fans know Maxime had started the season outstanding and in just 6 games played the the Canadian born 26-year-old forward had accumulated 9 points (7+2) and looked to be on for a massive point scoring season but at the National Ice Center not long after a shorthanded goal in the third period would be the moment that Sheffield fans didn't want and it was the injury to their early season star.

Maxime Lacroix Warming Up v Nottingham
Since the Injury to Maxime the Steelers have played 28 games and he's coming to a team that currently sit in third place in the league standings and have secured a place in the Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals so when you look at it like that its not all doom and gloom. Depending where Mark Thomas was during the boxing day I could possibly see Maxime warming up in Nottingham but not playing again but with the likes of Jeff Legue and Steven Goertzen expecting the birth of their unborn babies it might come to it where Lacroix might make his come back in the arena where he got injured. Lacroix returning to the Steelers can only be a good thing he brings back a good goal scoring presence which at times we have been missing and will probably just give new life in the dressing room. Anyone that saw him play in his first 6 games and I was able to see all 6 he is a player that gives his absolute everything, never gives up always looking for an extra pass and if that isn't available is always looking for a gap to place the puck past the opposition goaltender, give him time and we all know that he will score goal after goal.

Aaron Nell In Action For The Steelers

Also while I was writing this news came out of Sheffield that Aaron Nell was returning to the Swindon Wildcats as part of a two-way agreement with the Sheffield Steelers, so Nell is going back to Swindon so he can get more ice time, he will carry on training in Sheffield but will pay for Swindon effective as of immediately. If anything Nell will benefit from this move and will help him improve as a player because with the current forwards we have on the roster he just cant get the ice time he deserves or needs to help him improve himself as a Sheffield Steelers, the two-way deal means we can call him back to play whenever we need him its a system that is used all the time in the NHL and the AHL and it works wonder out there and yes I know were the EIHL but its a system I would like to see used more with younger players that teams may have and need to go elsewhere temporaliry for ice time its something that can be used to improve young British talent for the future. Good luck to Aaron in Swindon and like I say we'll see him back in the house of steel very soon.
