Adams Signs On - Will He G Them Up For The Playoffs?

So we all awoke this morning to the news that nobody in the hockey fraternity had any idea about in the slightest...in no way...it was a secret right?

Anyway yes, Gerad Adams is back in Sheffield, signing up as coach until the end of the season. Steven Goertzen will be his assistant, and together their intention is to make a charge for the playoffs.

(Btw, I make no apologies for the headline. Puntastic)
He made the right noises in an interview with Radio Sheffield, talking about getting the players working for him and focussing on the task in hand. I wouldn't expect him to say anything different.

The question is, what will he actually bring to the table?

Well he brings a proven pedigree of making it to POFW. Yes, he never won it with the Devils, but as all Steelers fans have given up hope of winning the thing, getting there should be the target.

You can also never accuse there of being a dull moment in Cardiff under G. I have always been entertained by his Devils teams, so if he is given the summer to build his own team, we can have that to look forward to.

There is the small issue of Adams not having won anything as a coach, but then league winner Doug Christiansen worked out well...

Personally, I don't feel as excited as maybe I should about this. I think its the length of contract - he's only guaranteed to be in Sheffield for six weeks, which is nowhere near enough time to properly put his mark on the side.

However, the length of the contract is what makes this a no-brainer. G has six weeks to decide if he likes what he sees and if he wants to take on the job full time. And by the same way of thinking, we have 6 weeks to see if Adams Hockey is Steelers Hockey, and if he can bring an ounce of success and respect into this season.

I'll reserve judgement for now, simply ending with welcome to Sheffield Gerad, and good luck.
