Five Things We Learnt This Weekend - Preseason Special

So that's preseason done with. Trading wins with the Coventry Blaze, we looked good at home and wobbly away. But what did we learn?

1. Cullen Eddy is a bit special.
Call it a mancrush, call it what you will, but on Saturday night Cullen Eddy stood head and shoulders above everyone else, on a night when almost all in orange impressed. He was immense. Never mind his goal and assist, it's that incredible dispossession of Tendler, after his own mistake left the Blaze sniper through on goal, that sticks in everyone's mind. And that celebration of being man of the match. Wow. Eddy will impress.

2. Pascal Morency is not just a goon.
There were laughs from the EIHL fandom when we announced the signing of Morency. Even I thought he was just here to protect Robert Dowd. Well, this weekend proved otherwise. Great pace and energy, quite capable, and scored our only goal in Cov tonight. Not just the monkey on skates many thought he'd be.

3. We look strong at home.
Granted, Ice Sheffield isn't our actual home, but with a crowd behind them, the team played their hearts out - in a pre-season friendly. Saturday was a great showing from a team with only 3 hours practice behind them.

4. We look wobbly away.
The opposite of 3, we didn't do well in the Skydome. Could this be a worry?

5. The above could all be b******s.
It's pre-season. Things aren't going to click from the first puckdrop, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head checking. Very early days, and some very promising works in progress.

This will continue throughout the season. Quick, easy and painless.
