The Form Guide - Panthers vs Lukko Rauma (CHL, 22/8/14)

Yes, this is a thing. I thought loads of you would make betting jokes about Mosienko so I've decided to take advantage of it.

So tonight, the Panthers open up their CHL campaign against Lukko Rauma. As you might expect, they are overwhelming outsiders in the betting stakes. Is there any value to be had from them though?

All odds are courtesy of Paddy Power.

They are a whopping 11/2 to win their opening game, which is to be expected due to the reputation of their opponents. Handicap betting doesn't hold much value either - given a 2.5 goal headstart they are odds on (4/6) to "win".

There is more value to get from betting on Lukko.

Given a 2 goal handicap, they are 11/10 to "win" - which in this case would be a three goal winning margin.

Alternatively, a Lukko win by 2 goals is 9/2, which could be good value, as I certainly don't think it will be a walkover. This would be my recommendation.

A curious bet that is tempting, though, is the Panthers to win in overtime. You can get 45/1 on that. If they are really up for it, and if Lukko are off form, that is a very tempting and surely worth £1 if you've got money to burn.

Liam's recommendation: Lukko to win by 2 goals (9/2 on Paddy Power.
