Match Report: 21.2.2015 - Steelers v Blaze EC/EIHL

Saturday 21st February 2015 – Sheffield Steelers (27-10-4) v Coventry Blaze (18-23-2) @ Motorpoint Arena. Face-off: 7pm, Erhardt Conference/Elite League

Sheffield Steelers – 1
Mathieu Roy – 3rd PP

Coventry Blaze – 2
Ben Arnt – 2nd PP
Ryan O’Marra – 2nd

Geoff Woolhouse was in goal due to injuries to Doyle and Unice and it turned out Woolhouse played 55 minutes out of the 60 injured and that’s a real soldier for me. It was a goalless period but a very good period of hockey in which Woolhouse had mostly routine saves to make but Stewart made some fantastic saves to deny Steelers the lead. Coventry did have a goal ruled out when Blaze fired a snap shot from the left hand side and it beat Woolhouse and hit what looked like the inside of the post but the goal light didn’t go on and after discussion the officials decided not to give the goal and going into the break it was 0-0.
End of the 1st Period: Sheffield Steelers 0–0 Coventry Blaze
Shots on Goal: Steelers 13-11 Blaze

Coventry took the lead at 21:50 when some good link up by the Blaze led to Ben Arnt getting the puck in front and he fired a shot down low past Woolhouse for a 1-0 lead. It would soon be 2-0 at 22:29 when again Coventry were linking up well and a fantastic defensive play by Hay bounced awkwardly and on the tape of Ryan O’Marra and a man of his talent doesn’t miss and he beat Woolhouse top shelf. Stewart performed even more heroics and Steelers just couldn’t get that bounce and Blaze went into the break 2-0 up.
End of the 2nd Period: Sheffield Steelers 0–2 Coventry Blaze
Shots on Goal: Steelers 14–8 Blaze

Third period was more of the same with Steelers getting shots on target and Stewart was keeping everything out, Woolhouse was playing just as well at the other end as he saved several guilt edge chances with the clock ticking down Sheffield finally broke Stewarts shut-out at 56:28 when Mathieu Roy was in front and he tipped a shot from the point but Stewart couldn’t keep hold of it and Roy scored his own rebound. Woolhouse was pulled in the final minute for an extra attacker but couldn’t find that equaliser and Coventry took the point’s home.
Shots on Goal: Steelers 10–14 Blaze
