2nd leg of the semi-final on loan Netminder Sam Gospel was deputizing in goal due to Sheffield’s injury crisis and what a game it was going all the way to penalty shots, Steelers took the lead at 4:34 when Colton Fretter on the powerplay fired a nicely taken wrist from the left circle over the left shoulder of Kowalski to make it 1-0. It was very quickly 2-0 at 5:16 when Forney went down the left hand side managed to get a back handed shot off which Kowalski thought he had but it was dropped and Mathieu Roy swiped it home and before we knew it, it was 3-0 at 5:41 when Fretter went down the left and played a back handed pass to the point and Mosienko fired a brilliant one timed shot over the shoulder of Kowalski and in.

Nottingham pulled a goal back at 30:30 when Bruce Graham had the puck behind the goal and he played to Evan Mosey on the point who fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Sam Gospel for 3-1. It was 3-2 at 37:33 when on the power play Chris Lawrence got the puck to the right of goal before firing a snap shot in off the stick of Gospel. We was all tied up at 38:52 when Farmer lifted a puck over Gospel at close range after a poor turnover by Sheffield to make it 3-3 going into the second period break.

Into the third period Ben O’Connor went coast to coast before firing a backhanded shot in past Kowalski at his near post somehow to make it 4-3 to the Steelers at 41:48. Boxill would level it up again though shorthanded at 45:08 when Jonathan Boxill shot straight off the face off and Gospel out and it was 4-4. With the Steelers on the man advantage Gord Baldwin fired a shot from the blue line that bounced of Kowalski and Robert Dowd back handed the rebound in past Kowalski to make it 5-4 at 45:32. Steelers tied it up on aggregate at 55:16 to make it 6-4 to the Steelers when Robert Dowd picked out Fretter in front of goal who shot his backhanded shot past the blocker of Kowalski and the game was going to overtime.
End of the 3rd Period: Nottingham Panthers (7) 4-6 (7) Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Panthers 9–15 Steelers

Steelers completely dominated the overtime session and should have won it during that 5 minutes but Kowalski made some fantastic saves especially from Cullen Eddy at point blank range. But into the shootout and Sam Gospel was the hero as Kowalski saved Fretter and Forney’s shot he couldn’t keep out Tomas Petruska back hander and then Sam Gospel managed to deny Lawrence, Farmer and Graham the three Nottingham men that you’d put money on and it was Gospel that won the semi-final for the Steelers and it would be Sheffield v Cardiff in the Challenge Cup final on the 8th March.
