Could We Have An Actual Preseason Please?

Maybe this is the football fan in me coming out, but it looks to me as if we have next to no preseason. I'm used to teams going on several away days to practice tactics and gain fitness. So the Steelers' preseason looks very bare to me.

A game against the Coventry Blaze is, to date, our only preseason "friendly" exhibition game. Not much of an opportunity for the team to gel. I know there's a couple of weeks where the team can be on the ice and learn systems in Sheffield, but you cannot beat genuine in-game ice time for chemistry building and overall physical conditioning.

For this, I'm hoping we're going to announce some more games. If management are struggling for ideas, here's a few suggestions for them.

Embark On A European Tour
Same as what we did last year, hopefully without the chaos of Rylan Galiardi having to get across Europe by himself after getting his visa, and Dustin Kohn getting into a car crash. Take in a few different rinks, test ourselves against higher quality teams - it wasn't that experience last year that cost us the league. If picked out right, and enough attention put into the small details, it could be a successful venture - money permitting of course.

Take Advantage Of The Lack Of Passport Control At The Scottish Border
Hands up who'd like a long weekend in Edinburgh, Dundee, Kirkcaldy and Glasgow? Thought so. If we stay as last season we'd only be facing the Gardiner teams 4 times each. How about a long weekend touring all 4 teams as a warmup for the season, and a good excuse for a fan coach trip?

Invite Some Teams Over For A Tournament
Ice time may put paid for these kinds of ideas but how about bringing some teams over for the fans to see? Yeah I know, money, ice, effort, faff, blah blah. A showpiece spectacular would be nice.

A Best Of 3 Series With The Sheffield Steeldogs
I can hear you sniggering. Stop it. Leggy's there now. Tom Squires is there. They play over the field for the love of god. Build some bridges and work together. Failing that, 180 minutes to bash each other to pieces, an opportunity which some Steeldogs fans would love I'm sure.

There we go. A few ideas. Discuss them with us.
