The Walkeden Review: The End Is Near

The end is near guys - don’t worry we’re going to be back in the arena next week!

The Ice is going in over the weekend after the leak and plant has now been repaired!

The only reason I’m writing this is because there are too many people moaning about the last few weeks on social media! Yes, I want to be in the arena as much as the next person but moaning about it isn’t going to change the fact that it isn’t the clubs fault!

Maybe you could say that the arena could have checked the pipes during the off-season but that would mean digging up the pipes for under the contract, which we found out they have to do in an attempt to find the leak in 6 miles of pipe.

But I don’t blame the arena either it’s just one of them things that happens and if it didn’t happen, it was going to happen eventually, personally I think we’ve got lucky its happened right at the start of the season. Imagine if we were half way through the season, then what would he have done? That would have been a nightmare. I’ve seen fans moaning on social media when Tony wasn’t telling us enough about the ice situation and he got slated for it, and when he did tell us how it is he got slated again, so let’s be honest he couldn’t win could he?

Tony said that he was confident this Sunday game v Belfast was going to be at the arena but he wasn’t confident and it turns out the game had to be moved to Ice Sheffield, as the Glycol that had to be put through the pipes and into the system took longer than they expected, and so it wouldn’t be possible to have the Ice frozen and the playing markings successfully completed in time for Sunday, but it would all be done by the 27th when we take on the Cardiff Devils in the Challenge Cup - when we will also see the banner raising, which we’ve been waiting for since April, and I’m not going to lie I can’t wait to see it up in the rafters.

So an extra seven days gives them chance to get the Ice down, painted along with sponsors (Yes I’m not a massive fan of all the sponsors but what can you do at the end of the day, it’s not about the sponsors it’s about them players in Orange playing for our team). It also gives the team an opportunity to train in the arena before Saturday's game so maybe this Sundays game being in Ice Sheffield is a good thing.

I’m not going to go into the Kell Brook fight as we now have the 6th December game back now and today (19th September) we found out that the Cardiff Devils game on the 28th February 2015 will be being moved due to the Script playing at the arena, but to keep it simple if you want my opinion it’s good business.

We're also still going to get our 25 games in the arena as because Belfast has been moved into Ice Sheffield a Breahead game that was scheduled for the 4th March has been taken out of the Ice Sheffield and put into the arena as we're also going to get a challenge cup semi-final on our season tickets as well as the Dundee game that is yet to be re-arranged, so us fans are getting what we paid for and hopefully along with it some silverware!

I also think we all need to thank Ice Sheffield for accommodating us on such short notice during the crisis over the last four weeks because imagine if Ice Sheffield wasn’t there what would we have done! So thank you very much to the Management and Staff of Ice Sheffield but it goes without saying I can’t wait to be back in the arena.

If you’re in Nottingham on Saturday or Ice Sheffield on Sunday be sure to say hi to me you won’t miss me I’ll have my Steelers Jersey on and have my Blue Cross Jersey round my waist.

Thanks for Reading Guys and be sure to remember that we owe Ice Sheffield a big thank you.
