Weekend Preview - Capitals (a) Stars (a)

The first Scotland weekend of the year sees the Steelers travel the east coast to our good friends in the Capital, and on to see our old friend Chris Blight on Tayside.

Some very good news out of the Steelers camp this week, all leads to a wave of positivity for the road trip.

Pascal Morency and Robert Dowd will make the trip to Scotland after skating this week with no side effects. What roles they play are up in the air - they may just warm up - but it's a big psychological boost. It may also give Jay Latulippe the chance to rest up, as he has supposedly been carrying a couple of niggling knocks over the past few weeks.

Of course, this week the Steelers announced that Ben O'Connor had signed a 3 year contract, so he'll remain in the side. I imagine this means that Cullen Eddy and Rod Sarich will alternate playing forward shifts.

Peterborough Phantoms are not playing on Saturday, but with the nature of the road trip I would be surprised if Luke Ferrara played for the Steelers, as the Phantoms have a home game on Sunday.

Saturday sees the Steelers in Murrayfield against everyone's favourite second team. Make sure you buy a programme to read an exclusive column by yours truly that will not appear anywhere else.

The Caps will be missing Joe Grimaldi and Sean Beattie with head/concussion concerns, while Richard Hartmann will likely remain sidelined.

Prediction: Caps 1-5 Steelers

Sunday sees the boys travel up to Dundee, who while showing good spirit in losing at the Motorpoint, are clearly missing something. An overtime loss to the Panthers is only really papering over the cracks. Congratulations to Jeff Hutchins, who will play in his 500th Elite League game this weekend.

Prediction: Stars 2-4 Steelers
