The game got underway and the Steelers started it in convincing fashion controlling much of the early play with both teams both having decent efforts but it was Sheffield who took the lead on 6:17 when Robert Dowd playing his first game in 9 received a pass from behind the goal to fire a one timer from the left of goal in off the pads of Hiadlovsky. Sheffield went on to miss countless efforts and that wasn't without Capitals causing danger themselves and levelled the game on 10:17 when Jarolin was played in by Naslund to the left of Doyle before nicely firing through the five hole of the Sheffield netminder. They wasn't level for long though when Latulippe made it 2-1 at 11:41 after Hiadlovsky made a safe off Phillips and the puck bounced nicely for Latulippe to put into the open goal. Sheffield got the first powerplay of the game and made it count when on 13:51 Ben O'Connor found himself in front of Hiadlovsky but squared it to Roy to slot past the leg of the Edinburgh netminder for a 3-1 score line. A lapse in concentration let Edinburgh back in though as they broke down the left wing and Dennis Rix received the puck in front of Doyle to nicely re-direct it past him at 16:19 to bring the Caps back within one goal.
End of the 1st Period: Edinburgh Capitals 2–3 Sheffield Steelers

Second period got underway and the fans saw some fantastic netminding in this session as Hiadlovsky had to keep his team in the game. It was a very comfortable session for the Steelers despite giving Edinburgh a Powerplay opportunity and even then Sheffield looked the better especially when Phillip skated down the left and dumped the puck to Mosienko in front of Hiadlovsky and he forced the Caps netminder to make a move and he had the whole goal to aim at and was going to score but next thing we know the net is off its mooring and there was no goal or a penalty called which didn't impress the travelling fans. The period started getting physical with both teams throwing in hits but it was a period all about Hiadlovsky who made save after save and Doyle honestly didn't have much to do at all but Edinburgh would get into the second intermission still down by one goal.
End of the 2nd Period: Edinburgh Capitals 2–3 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Capitals 5–15 Steelers

Third period got underway and it was as if the Capitals just gave up as Sheffield would score seven unanswered goals and it started on 42:31 as Mike Forney fired a one timer from the right circle of the skate of Hiadlovsky on the man advantage for 4-2, that was followed by a cracking save by Doyle from Jay King on the blue line one of the two shots he faced all period. A problem with the plexi glass meant. A lengthy delay but Sheffield didn't let that bother them once play got back underway and Colton Fretter made it 5-2 on 44:59 after Roy saw his initial shot saved by Hiadlovsky the puck was loose for Fretter to lift over the Caps netminder. It was becoming goals galore when at 46:29 Phillips passed to Mosienko who slotted into an open goal for 6-2 and soon after Dowd made it 7-2 for his second of the night as Cullen Eddy fired a shot from the blue line through traffic for Dowd to tip it past Hiadlovsky the Caps netminder went for a change after goal but was told no and was sent back to his goal and Capitals then went on the man advantage as Sarich was called for slashing but it was much kinder to Sheffield as they scored two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill first Latulippe at 51:50 for 8-2 who fired a rocket of a slap shot from the top of the left circle past Hiadlovsky which did end his night and see Craig Mallinson go between the pipes but then it was Forney who missed a chance at the back door but Roy picked up the puck to shoot a backhanded shot past Mallinson on 53:11 for the second shorthanded goal to make it 9-2. Sheffield wrapped up the scoring on 56:31 when they scored their tenth of the night as Roy had the puck in the zone before firing a low forehanded shot past Mallinson for his hat trick goal and it saw Sheffield run out rampant winner and they saw the rest of the game out with ease but there was a coming together in the final minute involving Hewitt, Boyd and Emmerson I'm not sure what happened but it ended with the Steelers forward being thrown out of the game after receiving a ten minute misconduct.
