Breaking News Ladies and Gentleman Pascal Morency is to leave the Sheffield Steelers with immediate effect.
So today (Saturday 8th November 2014) came the news that in my
opinion was coming and wasn’t a surprise and that is that 32-years-old Canadian
forward Pascal Morency would be leaving the Sheffield Steelers effected immediately
after his Steelers career has been thwarted by injury just like his previous
years after he suffered a life threatening head fracture a few years ago at
8:27am on the 8th November Pascal Morency confirmed via @37Hockey
(His Agent) that he had retired from professional hockey due to concussion
related symptoms. That is how quick someone’s career can come to an end.
Pascal made just two competitive appearances for the Steelers in 18 games after he was injured on his debut in Cardiff in them two games Pascal didn’t manage to get any points on the board but accumulated 9 penalty minutes after his fight v Trevor Hendrikx in the opening game of the season. From what I say in pre-season and that game in Cardiff and Edinburgh it is more proof that Sheffield are losing an intelligent player and an all-round good guy and he was somebody nobody ever had a bad thing to say about him.
I’m going to bring up something I saw in Dundee last Sunday with Morency sitting in the stands the opposite end of the Arena there was a Dundee fan on crutches struggling to get up the stairs to get to her seat and I’ve never seen anyone move so quick as Pascal was on his feet going down to help the lady to her seat. Top guy if you ask me and it is stuff like that! That people don’t always see.
Since the announcement the amount of messages that Pascal has been sent on twitter is unbelievable and I’m sure he appreciates that as every time I look at my timeline I’m seeing new messages for him.
Gerad Adams has confirmed that Sheffield are looking for a replacement for Pascal as it does leave us down an Import but Gerad says he won’t rush into a signing as if he wanted he could get someone in as quick as today but he said he’s going to wait for the right man that will do a job for us instead of just making up numbers so we all look forward to seeing who Gerad has in in mind. So guys what do the Steelers need? Get in touch and tell us what sort of player you'd like to see.
Pascal everyone wishes you a healthy recovery and it’s a shame for this to happen but your health does come first and for once I’m gutted I was right after predicting he’d be released a few weeks ago but a decision had to be made in the best interest of the player and the club. So good luck with whatever you decide to do in the future Pascal and please if you read this stay in touch with the blog and tell us what you get up to doing when you’re back to full health and make a decision.
When Morency signed for us we did interview him here at Frozen Steel and to read that interview it can be found here.
Even though it was only for two games Pascal we have a saying here in Steelerland! Once a Steeler, Always a Steeler #55
