Friday night in Hockey got underway and it was the Visitors who had the first shot of the night when Brent Walton found himself at the top of the face-off circle but Doyle makes the glove save then it would be Joey Haddad who showed some great stick handling to make himself in front of Doyle but couldn’t beat the Steelers netminder and Sheffield would break and Forney’s shot would go straight into the body of Bowns. Hesitant defending by the league leaders almost let in Mychan but Doyle was able to get the puck covered. Sheffield broke the deadlock at 5:57 when Kohn was on the blue and he played to O’Connor to the right of Bowns who threw one in front of goal for Mathieu Roy to tip past Ben Bowns for a 1-0 lead. There would be some end to end stuff as Mosienko would skate coast to coast but wouldn’t be able to get his shot away as Myers and Morissette tried to test Doyle but could only shoot wide. Sheffield got the first power play of the night but it was an aggressive kill by the Devils. With the visitors back to full strength they broke 2v1 and Darrell Hay defended well to deny them and it was Doyle who cleared up the rest with the glove save of Myers. There was an incident at the end of the first period with 1:54 left on the clock Andrew Hotham took a puck to the face from Baldwin and Hotham left the Ice straight away and I don’t believe he returned for any more of the game, On his way of the Ice he unfortunately dripped blood on the Ice so the officials decided to end the period. Cut the Ice and play the remaining 1:54 at the start of the second, swap ends and then begin the second. The first period did end 1-0 to the Steelers.
End of the 1st Period: Sheffield Steelers 1–0 Cardiff Devils
Shots on Goal: Steelers 10-9 Devils

Second period got underway, and Sheffield got an early powerplay and both teams were getting physical as Hendrikx hit Eddy hard on the boards as Dowd fired a shot of the post and then O’Connor was next to fire one off the post as some of the fans thought it went in and then under the pads of Bowns but the Referee said no goal and we still had a 1-0 game. Morissette found himself 1 on 1 with goal by Doyle made a great backhanded save and Devils then went on the powerplay themselves but they was kept to the outside and had to deal with long range shots. Cardiff was having a lot of possession Doyle was on top form denying Morissette again and Clarkson. One again some real end to end stuff and Sheffield extended their lead on 34:35 when some great work by Dowd to win the puck in the Cardiff zone ended with him playing Mosienko who’s shot on goal was saved by no covered up and Dowd poked it home at close range past Bowns for 2-0 and it was very quickly 3-0 when Phil Hill at 35:01 assisted by Danny Bois fired a wrist shot past Bowns from in front of goal and very quickly Devils pulled a goal back themselves when assisted by Morissette it was Hudson who broke Doyle’s shut out from close range at 36:13 but Cardiff couldn’t pull another back and Sheffield took a 3-1 lead into the second break.
End of the 2nd Period: Sheffield Steelers 3–1 Cardiff Devils
Shots on Goal: Steelers 6–14 Devils

Third period got underway and Cardiff were trying hard to get back into the game as Hudson who had already scored tonight skated coast to coast but his shot went high and wide, physicality was playing a big part in the early stages of the third period as Sarich hit Haddad into the boards and Haddad laid a big hit on O’Connor on the boards. Sheffield went on the man advantage and British D-man O’Connor showed some fantastic skills with the puck but couldn’t get his shot on goal and then Eddy saw his one timer saved by Bowns to his frustration. Walton was having a great game and he managed to turn Baldwin inside out but his pass went wide of his target and then the Devils went on the man advantage themselves and was unlucky not to pull another goal back when Morissette saw his shot saved and then Haddad found himself at the top of the faceoff circle and Doyle managed to get the slightest touch on his shot to push it wide with the clock ticking down Devils pulled Ben Bowns for the extra attacker and after Phillips put wide of the empty net and Mosienko saw his shot blocked on the line it was Colton Fretter with a second left in the game who fired one from the neutral zone into the back of the net to give the Steelers the 4-1 win and take them to the top of the league by two points.
