Match Report: 8.2.2015 - Devils v Steelers EC/EIHL

Sunday 8th February 2015 – Cardiff Devils (23-12-3) v Sheffield Steelers (25-9-4) @ Big Blue Tent. Face-off: 6pm, Erhardt Conference/Elite League

Cardiff Devils – 4
Brent Walton – 1st
Joey Martin (2) – 1st PP, 3rd
Jake Morissette – 1st

Sheffield Steelers – 0

Devils came into this game on a losing streak and were looking to get back to winning ways as well as getting revenge on the Steelers who blanked them 6-0 a fortnight ago. Devils came out all guns blazing and blew Sheffield away taking the lead at 6:32 when Hotham fired a shot from the blue line and Brent Walton tipped it past Unice from in front for a 1-0 lead. It would soon be 2-0 at 9:22 when on the power play Joey Martin got hold of the puck in the middle of the face-off circle and fired a snap shot that beat Unice down low. It wasn’t going to get better for the Steelers any time soon especially at 10:18 when Cardiff took a 3-0 lead when Morissette tipped a second shot past Unice after Richardson fired a snap shot from the point. Steelers were extremely lucky not to be 4-0 down after Cardiff had a goal waved off for high sticks when replies shown it was a perfectly good goal but none the less Devils led 3-0 at the end of the 1st period.
End of the 1st Period: Cardiff Devils 3–0 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Devils 15-6 Steelers

Second period was a goalless session however Cardiff did have another goal waved off but this time rightly so as Matthew Myers was stood in the blue paint as Devils shot one past Unice who was being left out to dry by his team mates. Steelers did try and create offence but just came up second best to anything as Ben Bowns was simply outstanding especially when Mosienko found himself on the breakaway after a poor change by the Devils but Bowns kept him out and at the end of the 2nd it remained 3-0 to the Devils.
End of the 2nd Period: Cardiff Devils 3–0 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Devils 11–7 Steelers

Steelers came out trying to prove a point and massively outshot the Devils in this session but just couldn’t find a way past Ben Bowns who was just simply outstanding as was his team mates as Cardiff played a full 60 minute game. Devils actually managed to score a fourth goal at 45:03 as Joey Martin managed to skate through the Steelers un-challenged to lift his shot past Unice and it secured a 4-0 victory for the Cardiff Devils and a shut-out for Ben Bowns.
Shots on Goal: Devils 3–11 Steelers
