Last Saturday saw three SIHA Junior teams in action at Ice Sheffield with two wins and a loss recorded between those teams playing. Stormers U14 D1 continued their fine form with a resounding 13-1 win over Manchester. Rapiers U16 D1 followed up with a 4-0 win over Whitley Bay however Steelhawks U18 D1 were no match for Coventry and lost 4-1 in the process.

On Sunday the sole game involving a SIHA team was in the NIHL Moralee Conference with Spartans taking on Solway Sharks. In what was an impressive performance from Spartans they ran out worthy 6-1 winners which came on the back of a 4-0 opening period with goals from Stuart Brittle on 0.48, Elliott Knell on 5.37 & Ollie Barron on 7.33 after which Solway called a timeout. It had little effect as Spartans continued to outplay their opponents to go 4-0 up with a well taken goal; Jonathan Kirk firing in on 10.41. Into the second period and Spartans started strongly again although it was noticeable that Sharks looked a different team than they had in the first but it was Spartans that made their continued dominance & chances count as two nice goals from Ollie Barron saw him bag his hat-trick to put Spartans firmly in the driving seat at 6-0 up with the goals timed at 27.02 & 33.19. Sharks looked more dangerous and deserve praise for not just caving in but showing tremendous spirit to go on and enjoy their best spell of the game in which they had two goals washed out. Solway’s efforts were rewarded when Pavol Melicherik slotted home on 37.41 after some nice play from the impressive Steven Moore to make it 6-1. The final period was pretty even with neither team really able to gain the upper hand despite having some good chances to add to their scores. Spartans played sensible hockey both in defence and attack which Solway couldn’t better which resulted in a 0-0 but enjoyable period that saw Spartans run out worthy 6-1 winners.
