Just a couple of days after the Challenge Cup Final and Steelers were out for a bit of revenge and it’s just what they got in very convincing fashion. Steelers opened the scoring at 3:26 when Cullen Eddy picked up the blocked shot of Jonathan Phillips and fired his slap shop low past Ben Bowns from the point. It was 2-0 at 15:42 when Roy was picked out by Forney in the neutral zone he turned all along and found himself on the breakaway before going forehand on to his backhand slotting past Bowns and that’s how it stayed going into the 1st Interval.
End of the 1st Period: Sheffield Steelers 2–0 Cardiff
Devils
Shots on Goal: Steelers 9-7 Devils
Into the 3rd Period and Colton Fretter made it 3-0 at 23:52 when Mathieu Roy had the puck behind the goal of Ben Bowns and he managed to feed Fretter who fired the puck first time in off the bottom of the post. It was very quickly 4-0 at 25:33 when Robert Dowd was on the left hand side and he fired a brilliant wrist shot top shelf over the shoulder of Bowns and that cued the end of Bowns night as he headed for the bench and Mike Will took to the net. Will held the score line at 4-0 going into the 2nd interval.
End of the 2nd Period: Sheffield Steelers 4–0 Cardiff Devils
Shots on Goal: Steelers 7–12 Devils
Into the 3rd period and Sheffield ran riot on the Devils. At 43:52 it was 5-0 when Dowd picked up Eddy’s blocked shot and fired a big slap shot in off the post down low for his second of the night. It was 6-0 at 45:42 Fretter somehow gets on the breakaway and goes forehand and backhand and Will made a very good pad save but the puck was loose Forney managed to lift it over Will. It was 7-0 at 46:31 Legue broke down the right hand side and threw the puck in front of goal and Hewitt shot first time past Will. Devils had just fallen apart and Lord called their time-out. A fight soon broke out between Sarich and Marsh and it was Marsh that got all the punches in and the takedown was more 50/50 and at this point the Devils went penalty crazy accumulating 100 penalty minutes in the final 10 minutes It’ll take too long to explain them all so look at the game sheet and watch the highlights but basically Steelers would have 7 consecutive minutes on the powerplay. It was 8-0 at 52:52 when Dowd fired a shot from the point and Mathieu Roy tipped it past Mike Will before Forney made it 9-0 at 53:31 when the Steelers top goal scorer slotted into the open goal before Hotham viciously slashed Forney on the legs in which he got thrown out the game for. Legue made it 10-0 at 55:32 with his old Leggy trademark slap shot from the point which was a one timer past Will before the Steelers finished the scoring off at 57:47 when Dowd got his hat-trick goal to make it 11-0 when Dowd fired a one timer past Will at the back door to secure an 11-0 win for the Steelers and a valuable two points that took them to the top of the league. A Shut out for Josh Unice, 11 goals, and 3 Devils players thrown out the game which looks like DOPs could be having a say before the weekends game.
