Match Report: 4.3.2015 - Steelers v Clan EIHL

Wednesday 4th March 2015 – Sheffield Steelers (29-12-4) v Braehead Clan (32-11-3) @ Ice Sheffield. Face-off: 7:30pm, Elite League

Sheffield Steelers – 2
Tyler Mosienko – 2nd
Robert Dowd – 2nd PP

Braehead Clan – 0

A late start to the game after Braehead had broken down but it didn’t seem to effect either team as it was real end to end stuff with lots of physicality by both sides, Clan did have on power play in the 1st session but wasn’t able to make it count as Kohn was called for holding but the teams would go in all square at the end of the 1st.
End of the 1st Period: Sheffield Steelers 0–0 Braehead Clan
Shots on Goal: Steelers 12-6 Clan

Steelers took the lead early in the 2nd period at 21:58 When Dowd tried to get a shot off and Fretter brought down a puck and nicely laid of Mosienko who fired a one timer top shelf over the shoulder of Kyle Jones for 1-0. Clan would struggled to stay out the box all period but there period stood tall and kept out the Steelers well, Sheffield did have a second goal ruled out when Dowd was on the right hand side and he fired a slap shot off the crossbar that bounced in off Ben O’Connor’s skate but Mike Hicks said no goal claiming that O’Connor kicked it in and the video replay confirmed there was no kicking motion and the goal should have stood. Steelers did actually score a second goal late in the period at 38:28 when on the man advantage Mosienko skated in front of goal and forced a good save out of Jones before receiving the puck again and nicely playing in Dowd who chipped the puck of Jones for 2-0 and the league leaders had a mountain to climb in the third period.
End of the 2nd Period: Sheffield Steelers 2–0 Braehead Clan
Shots on Goal: Steelers 12–8 Clan

Real end to end stuff in the third period as both teams were putting shift in as were the fans, Josh Unice however was just simply outstanding and refused to be beaten and would go on to get a shut-out as the Steelers won 2-0. Clan did pull Jones in the final minutes in attempt to get back into the game but on a night when Finnerty had plenty of excuses he just couldn’t admit that his team was well and truly outplayed by the Steelers.
Shots on Goal: Steelers 10–7 Clan
