A weekend of mixed fortunes leaves me learning another five things:
1> Tense Win - it's tight at the top, and although the Panthers will be a force to be reckoned with, we get the first bragging rights after a 2:1 win on Saturday, and for now boast a 100% winning record against them! We are number one, etc...
2> Tent’s Loss - however there was a melt-down in more ways than one on Sunday at the BBT. Giving up a 5 on 3, and then a shortie left us up against it, and on cramped crap ice were susceptible to Bownsy retreating into his net and closing us out. Let's hope they move soon.
3> We’re all Homies in the EIHL – Another loss in Cardiff isn’t a surprise, and they're now 8 from 8 at home this season. But it's not just small ice advantage, it's home advantage, as we're 6 from 6 at home, and only the Blaze are under .500 for home wins this year. Fascinating stat of the day!
4> Special Teams - the PK is still rocking, and only really conceding when down two men, but the PP is stinking bad. 1 goal from 8 chances this weekend drops us to absolute bottom of the PP rankings at just 11.4%. That's a surprise more than a concern, but get cracking lads.
5> Hewitt Mainlining - surely a man of the match contender on Saturday (off topic, but who chose Sarich for that prize btw?) our Jason was playing main line minutes and PK and PP. Good lad who always gives all he has, and with appearance 627 looming he's soon going to have played more games than anyone else in our history.
Storm Watch : a double header against the Capitals this weekend left them with a home SO win and and away loss against one of their main contenders for last playoff place. That'll do Storm fans, that'll do.
One final thought, did you notice there were 47 goals in 5 games on Sunday! The in-goal puck magnets were turned up to ten in Coventry, allowing the Giants to go 4:1 up early, then for the Blaze to score five unanswered, then for the Giants to score five unanswered - it was as if the ice really was tilted one-way then the other. Welcome back to the late 1980’s everyone!
