After disposing of the Dundee Stars last night, Steelers tonight look to make it a four point weekend against Gardiner Conference opposition when they make the road trip to Murrayfield to face Riley Emmerson's Edinburgh Capitals. Capitals are keen themselves to enhance their already impressive start to the season and follow up their penalty shot win at Ice Sheffield with a home win over us.
Helping FSB preview tonight's game is Capitals fan Robert Southwell. He's also a top bloke to boot to know off-ice.
FSB: How would you describe last season for the Caps?
Fairly shite with a sprinkling of occasional promise. We could be really
good for 8 games then guff for 15. Having said that I've nothin but
respect for Hartmann as a player and as a coach. Would like to see the
sort of team he's build with a Clan type budget.
FSB: Before Richard Hartmann left, you were saying his time was up and the
Caps should appoint Riley Emmerson as player-coach. How did it feel to
see that actually happen?
Absolutely delighted, both for emmo and the club. Emmo showed good
leadership qualities during the season, I was confident he'd be a great
appointment, even before I spoke to him about it.
FSB: What's your view on the roster he's recruited, for instance replacing Rene Jarolin with Ryan Hayes?
Emmo has done his homework on every player. I personally had doubts
about Chubak but he's been outstanding. The biggest compliment I can
give the roster is that we look like a proper team. Everyone fights for
each other. Ryan Hayes has been outstanding, he's a not just a goal
scoring machine he's providing a lot of energy an assists as well. He's
certainly not 'cheating' his way to the top of the scoring chart as 1 Steelers bawbag has said.
FSB: Caps have been this season's shock package, what has Emmerson done to change your fortunes so much?
He's brought a style that's suitable for the league. Hartmann's tippy
tappy euro hockey was good to watch when it worked but too often we were
bullied by teams. Emmo has brought a winning attitude with the players
he's brought in. He's made sure we won't be pushovers anymore.
FSB: What would be a realistic aim this season?
Obviously we're here to win the league and playoffs. We've allowed someone else to win the challenge cup. We're nice like that.
FSB: Who are the key players in Sunday's game for both sides and what do you reckon the final score is going to be?
Key players for Steelers: always been a big fan of Roy, even if everyone
is gettin his bloody name wrong. Your new netty will be key as well,
don't know much about him, interesting to see how he copes with Hayes.
Key players for Caps: Chubak will have to be at his best I think,
obviously Hayes is potentially a game winner in every game. McCallum and
Zanette are both unsung heroes for me, both are really good at both
ends of the ice.
Score: Caps 18 - Steelers 2
