Go whistle - Five things from w/e 7th Feb

Here's the five things that @Disgu15ed learnt this week:

1> Go whistle for it – in the NHL they have a rule that the play officially stops when the referee has the intention to blow, so there’s occasionally heated debates about goals being washed out when there was no whistle beforehand. However, the situation in Coventry takes this to another level, maybe it was the intention not to whistle (a new ‘Hogarth override’), as the whistle seemed to blow and yet the play continued. We need an explanation, but don’t suppose we’ll get one.

2> We got what we expected this weekend – Despite the apparent strength in their roster we’ve ended up with 7 wins from 8 against the Giants (87.5%), so another win at home wasn’t unexpected. Whereas we’re now 3 wins and 2 SO losses against the Blaze out of eight (50%), so a single point away was about ‘par’. Wouldn’t have expected those stats pre-season though.

3> Dry-spells – Goals have been pretty scarce from Roy, Mosienko, Nelson, Vestberg and Legue (our top ‘fit’ forwards). Looking at each players recent dry-spell stats then they have a combined 4 goals in their last 38 games. (1 in 9, 1 in 8, 1 in 7, 1 in 6, 0 in 10) That’s probably why we are just squeaking out our wins rather than blowing people away, and it’s just as well others are stepping-up.

4> 22 Goal thriller – Another one for the record books, as the twelve skater Manchester Strom, beat the fourteen skater Edinburg Capitals 13:9! It looked like it could be even worse for the Caps at 8:2 during the second period, but a late rally, and the introduction of the Storm back-up (a shocking 5 goals from 9 shots, which resulted in Kalemba being re-introduced) at least gave them something to cheer.

5> Panthers up, Clan down, Steelers steady, Devils stronger favourites – Think we were all glad that the Panthers beat the Clan to keep the title race tight, as even after their follow-up victory against the Stars they’ve still got too many Erdhart games left to win-out. Clan losing twice and Sheffield getting three points takes the Clan below the Steelers in my predictions. So I’m now predicting the Devils top by five points if they continue their streak – even with the conference bias – unless we can do the highly unlikely double and blow the race back open again!

One final thought is to always be on-guard at the Arena as Uncle David is always watching. If you hold hands with your boyfriend all-game, then don’t be surprised if kiss cam finds you out.
