The Elite Report - February Reviewed

You know what time it is. Yeah it's monthly awards time of course. Who's going to have plaudits lavished upon them, and who is going to be embarrassed? Well dust off them tuxedos and ballgowns from the wardrobe, and read on. Remember it's all a bit of fun so don't get your collective undergarments in a twist.

It's the only way you're going to find out...

Player Of The Month: One of the players behind the recent good run of form in Kirkcaldy is forward Justin Fox, and it is he who scoops the monthly gong in this category. The 28 year old Canadian has put decent numbers all way through his career and is doing the same for Todd Dutiaume and the Flyers. He, at the time of compling this, averages nearly a point a game. Definitely a good pick up by young Todd.

Team Of The Month: Eight games in a month, and seven won - all against their Conference rivals. If they can keep winning, they could make the post-season. The award goes to a resurgent Manchester Storm. Bet the prospect of play-off hockey being played in the "Storm Shelter" is one that Neil Russell's lips are getting seriously wet over. Here's hoping I haven't cursed them otherwise Omar might go nuts and lose his marbles again...

Flops Of The Month: This has to go my beloved Steelers in the first leg of the Challenge Cup semi final at Ice Sheffield. After all the hoo haa about the choice of venue, Steelers failed big time in a chance to make the Final. Appalling defending meant Panthers cruised through without much of a whimper. This was an embarrassment and if you stayed to the bitter end (like I would have if I been there), then you deserve a gold medal.

Coach Of The Month: Fife have another decent month, but after missing out on getting it last month then I'll hand it out to LeCoachPach. Now you've won this Omar; there's no need to have a paddy and chuck the teddies out of the pram. Or is that something you reserve for when you play Sheffield?

Douchebag Of The Month: I've got one serious candidate here and it is with very great pleasure, I award this to a Mr Stefan Hogarth. Mr Hogarth is probably not going to be on my Christmas card list, and me neither on his. He made an absolute clanger of a call at the start of the month and for that alone; is why he deserves the Douchebag award. To call a play dead and whistle is acceptable but then to award a goal literally seconds later on the so-called "dead" play is not. No wonder Thommo was seething post-game.

And that concludes February's ceremony. There will be no award ceremony this month (March) as I plan on deciding who is going to win the annual awards. One thing is for sure, they're gonna be a damn sight more exciting than the ones dished out at POFW 2016.
