From The Editor's Chair: Edition 1

Three Champions Hockey League and a couple of pre-season warm up games are under our belts, so it's time to take stock and see how I think things are progressing.

Welcome to the view, "From The Editor's Chair".

So here we are then, we have now had a good look at the class of 2016-17 and seen already what some of the new faces are bringing to the table. Whilst it is very early stages, we can't really go on and say that he's rubbish and needs to go already. After all we have to give everyone a fair crack of the proverbial whip. Gassing players after just 5 games is just not the right direction to head in.

However I have been impressed with the following already:
  • Ervins "The Moose" Mustukovs: Our Latvian netminder has certainly shown already that his performances in the 2011 title winning season were definitely no flashes in the proverbial pan. He's standing tall and giving us chances to win every night. Already looks like his return is proving to be a hit. I really hope he continues in this vein and makes certain people eat their words.
  • Christoffer Björklund: When I said on the Podcast that the signing of Christoffer reminded me of us bringing in Stefan Sjögren, I think that is a fair assessment. Like Stefan, he's Swedish of course, but this guy just already exudes confidence in his own abilities. He's comfortable in both ends of the ice. And has a nice shot on him too; just ask the EC Red Bull Salzburg goalie right?
  • Andreas Valdix: Finding a replacement to work with the wrecking ball twins of Messers. Dowd and Nelson was a tough ask especially when it was the skates of Freddie Vestberg. But fellow Swede Mr Valdix has certainly made a good start in my eyes. He provides size and presence and complements his new line mates very well indeed. Looks he was certainly worth the wait.
Others are still finding their feet such as Jesse Schultz for example, he of the excellent goalscoring pedigree. But once they do, then expect them to explode and cause havoc for opponents. It's still only really 2 weeks into the season so sure it's gonna take time to adjust and learn new systems under a new coach; for a new team. I do believe that once everyone is on the same page, then this roster could quite easily embarrass teams home and on the road.

So far, so impressed - even if the CHL results haven't gone our way. That's something I will talk about after the Salzburg home game. Be loud, be proud, be orange.
