From The Editor's Chair: Edition 9

They say better late than never at all, well then it's time for Edition Number nine where you get the views "From The Editor's Chair". For all the newbies out there, the opinions you are about to read represent my opinions only and are not linked to anything that is associated with our beloved Sheffield Steelers.

Got that? Time to see what has been occupying my mind then.

  • A good set of results: When the team went down to a Brendan Brooks strike in the House Of Steel on Saturday night, some might have been thinking "Oh God, here we go again!" but the boys kicked back and eventually overpowered a plucky opponent. The momentum carried into Sunday at Kirkcaldy and having watched the highlights of that, we were deserving of the win there - it could and should have been more.
  • Powerplay still sucks: I think we need to go back to the Ben Simon era to find our powerplay being any good in recent times. Wasn't it the best in the Elite League that season? If it wasn't then it was pretty damn close to being. For the last few seasons, we have been less than impressive when on the man advantage. The fact we went 0-10 against Fife over the two games is a stat that worries me. Especially when we have a premium Brit defenceman wearing 81 in our roster.
  • Nelson makes a difference: I'll say again, Steelers look a much more complete team when Levi Nelson plays. It's like he acts as a catalyst and all the players feed off his energy. Robbie Dowd certainly appears much more at home when his faithful sidekick is there on that second line with him; I bet Andi Valdix loves to centre these two - they certainly are the new "Bash Brothers". Nelson gets the fans excited, just look his goal celebration Saturday if you need clarification.
  • Banner raising: It was a nice touch to do the banner raising whilst having one of the, for me, unsung heroes of the double winners in residence - Russ Moyer. Seeing the Fife fans, and there was a fair few of them down, also applaud during the ceremony was a nice touch too. We're going to have to find more room soon if the silverware collection continues to expand. Can't be much spare spaces around? But the Club will work something out, they always do.
  • Goals being spread about: One of the good things that has emerged this season, is the team spread of goals. I mean if the top line fails to score, then you know full well that the other lines will be probably be providing some timely secondary, tertiary or even quaternary scoring. The defence is also chipping with goals, David "Scooby Doo" Phillips' goal at Fife completing the set as regards defencemen scoring at least once this campaign. Markus Nilsson is still searching for his first though, it'll come though.

Well they're my opinions, what do you think?

Side note: Edition 10 might not happen next week as I'm back in County Down (Northern Ireland) at the time I'm typing this and won't be at either game this weekend coming up.
