Big Match Preview - Panthers (Away)

After the Clan and Cardiff, Steelers leave the pursuit of the Elite League to one side. It's midweek hockey action.

Wednesday night, and we're playing the first leg of our Challenge Cup semi-final:

Yes indeed, we are in action against the "Champions Of Europe" (if you've not seen the t-shirts then it's cringe time again) - although I'm sure both Sparta Prague and Frölunda Göthenburg will digress. The first leg is in the NIC and it's imperative that we come away with a fighting chance come the second leg on Valentine's Day. A fighting chance to me construes as a maximum loss of two goals because we know full well that we have more than enough in us to pull it back.

However Panthers will be buoyed by not just the winning of the sandwich tray, Gary Moran still hasn't agreed to my request for a lot of ham sandwiches to put on it by the way, and the fact they got the double over us at Christmas time. That's gonna give them confidence. But we can win there, we know we can win there too. Part of me remains cynical though on how we managed to draw them at this stage for what must be the third season running.

Go into there, complete with their bear, and take the game to them and the ice away from them so the natives get restless and on their backs. Simple tried and trusted format that works. Any team who plays anyone else will agree with that sentiment. Well that's what they've done to us before too. You have a home team who gets put on the back foot, then you're going a long way towards skating away with a road win and a very happy bus ride home.

Prediction: Panthers will win leg one, I think it will be 4-2 leaving it finely poised.
