Steelers
this morning added to their depleted injury hit roster, a trait which has
seemingly hit others as well, by bringing in experienced Finnish winger Juha
Koivisto to the ranks. Koivisto has been signed an initial four-week injury
cover basis whilst Paul Thompson’s men have to do without a combination of
Messrs. Roy, Fretter, Nelson and Marquardt in that time due to various injuries
and knocks picked up these afore mentioned players.
33-year-old
Koivisto comes with an established pedigree with over 600 games in the top two
divisions in his homeland, and half of these in Liiga which is the top flight
of Finnish hockey. That’s an impressive stat if there ever was one. Predominantly
a right winger, he should provide welcome relief to the roster who have seen
numbers reduce and lines reshuffled almost on a game by game basis throughout
the pre-season fixtures.
He
becomes only the fourth Finn to play for the Steelers in their history,
following in the steps of Timo Wiilman, Ilpo Salmivitra and of course current
blue liner Joonas Ronnberg. An exclusive club indeed. The club have announced
that he will wear 42 in his time here in Sheffield, and will be making his bow
in Steelers colours at Altrincham tomorrow night when the boys travel there to
face Manchester Storm in the Challenge Cup.
Welcome
to Sheffield and to the Steelers Juha, we hope you enjoy your time here in
orange.
