Big Match Preview - Nottingham (Home) and Dundee (Away)

Welcome once more for your previews of the weekend games. Steelers go into them in a lot more happier, having picked up a maximum four point haul from last weekend's Challenge Cup games. This weekend the team are in Elite League action, the bread and butter, can they build on it and maintain their position in the higher echelons of the table. We certainly hope so, don't we?

The boys are on home ice on the Saturday night, as they entertain this team:

Yes it's a quick reunion with the Bears, our nearest and dearest. Having won both Challenge Cup encounters, you could say that we have some bragging rights over Corey Neilson's team at the moment. And that's a fair statement to come out with. However, that's where the confidence ends as far as I am concerned. Nottingham have a hungry squad there, and match winners in every line and position. They should be discounted at your peril. You can imagine that they will be hurting and wanting to derail us at any given chance, and where better than in front of a bumper arena crowd which is already rumoured to be around 8,000 even with 48 hours to go before face-off.

If we play a tight defensive game, and take our chances against them then we can win again without question. Moose proved last Saturday that he will give us a chance to win when he stands on his head, but we cannot afford to rely on that and pin our hopes on him solely. Hockey is a team game. The slightest blip or dropping of our guard could be costly. A solid hard working 60 minute performance is needed.

After this game, we can rest up at home but then on Sunday we have to be up with the birds for an away trip. We make the long journey northbound to face the following:

Omar Pacha and his Dundee Stars lie in wait for us, and Pacha will be hoping that this encounter will be the first time he enjoys success against the Steelers. Steelers blew the Stars, and whatever Pacha had planned, away when the two sides played at Ice Sheffield last month. However up in Dundee, we don't expect this will happen. It will be much tougher. We might have to battle away to get the two points on offer.

The Stars roster is much changed, and just this week they completed the signing of former Fife Flyer Justin Fox who will be keen to impress his new employers. Hard work is key to getting another four point haul.

My predictions? Steelers to defeat the Bears 4-3 after overtime on the Saturday, and then skate away with a 4-1 road triumph on the Sunday from Tayside.
