The Junior Report - Edition 18

Welcome to another Junior Report, penned by George. This particular report is based on last night's game at the House of Steel when Steelers were back in action.

In a game that was on the back of the Steelers losing to Guildford Flames, there was no pressure felt during the game, and the woes of Sunday night were soon forgotten. A goalless first period was due to the patience of the Steelers, who at times were maybe overly patient in how they played. Nevertheless the Steelers were on top after the first; outshooting the Caps 18-4.

The second started brightly however the caps netminder was in inspired form, making save after save until Mathieu Roy picked up a pass, and sniped one past the goalie. This had been coming, and the Steelers soon doubled their advantage through Levi Nelson, he slotted into an empty cage, to give the Steelers that sigh of relief. The game winning goal cage a bit later in the period through Eric Neiley who has been excellent since joining late in the season. He managed to wade his way through 3 caps defencemen before going five hole on the goalie. 3-0. However the Caps capitalised on a loose pass from Fitzgerald, Anderson went one on one on Mustukovs and went five hole, 3-1 the score now was at the end of the second.

The third period was inevitably the most ridiculous of them all. Within the space of two minutes, 5 goals happened. Mathieu Roy scored an empty net goal after a poor pull and misjudgement by the Capitals, however they gave themselves another glimmer of hope with a goal to make it 4-2 through Podzins. They pulled their netminder, on a Steelers breakaway, Ben O’Connor netting from centre ice with the keeper no where to be seen. 5-2. The scoring wasn’t over when a breakaway ended up on the tape of Davey Phillips stick, who roofed one over the Caps netminder to make it 6-2.

The Steelers are really good at bringing through apprentices. Kieran Brown, is 16 years old, he absolutely roofed one in the last second of the game; to make the fans go absolutely wild. Such an excellent night for Steelers fans to be able to witness yet another goal from such a young lad!

Here’s a stat for you however, our 16, 18, and 19 year olds, have now all scored against the Capitals!
