The Sheffield Steelers were at
home to a Devils side on the 11th of March in front of 6400 fans, against a
devils side who once again are knocking on the door to win a second
championship in two seasons. However
this was not the game that suited them, a hard physical battle against a
Steelers side who were simply better on the night.
The game
started brightly for the Steelers as Colton Fretter picked it up in his own
zone to skate two on one against the Cardiff defenceman to open the scoring.
Which made the arena jubilant and it was nothing less than the Steelers
deserve, they came out with a lot of fight in the game, which was evident
throughout. The devils can have no complaints about this really good Steelers
side.
Steelers then went 2-0 up through Franssila, his one timer was too much for the
impressive Murdy. It was almost too much for the Devils because former NHLer Tyson Strachan decided after making it 2-1, he would cheapshot Neiley in the head to
make it a mountain to climb for his team. That piece of good sportsmanship made
it easy for the Steelers as they scored twice on the five minute powerplay,
first of all through Fretter to make it 3-1, and then through Kirk to make it
4-1. However in this period the fightback was mere from the devils. They
managed to get it back to 4-2 through Joey Martin. An excellent player who I
would love at the Steelers.
The game
was over when Jonathan Phillips scored an empty netter to seal the game at a
comfortable scoreline of 5-2. You could
say it was an off day for the league leaders.
