Premier Off With A Bang

While the Steelers were putting the Stars to the sword, and the majority of the nation was glued to the blue phone box on the TV, Premier Sports began their live coverage of the Elite League at the Skydome, as Coventry hosted the Belfast Giants. I'm not going to do a match report for the game, because quite frankly I can't remember the majority of what happened. It was a cracking game to start with though, with prolonged powerplay periods of tension, the underdog making the comeback, a late winner, and lots of entertainment. It was a good first pick. What I will report on, is the overall show. And what a show it was.

The show started at 6:15 with Aaron Murphy reporting to camera, introducing the show. He then did commentary over all the week's highlights - well at least all the highlights that got submitted to the show. As much as I didn't want to relive the 6-1 thrashing last weekend, it probably belonged on this segment, and its absence was noticeable. What was on show, though, was very well presented. The quality wasn't pristine HD, but until every club gets an oligarch its not going to be. Use the tools you have to the best of your ability, and that was done tonight.

The in-game presentation was equally well done. Murphy clearly has a vast knowledge of the sport, and a good knowledge of the league. His assistant, Benn Olson, was a good colour analyst, who did not seem too biased, even with his Blaze allegiance. Credit to Paul Wheeler too, who held his own conducting rinkside interviews.

The only real dark spot was when they were going around the league with the scores. They had us LOSING 3-1.

A minor blip though. A great presentation that will only grow with experience and age. I fully recommend it.
