A Call To Arms

Tonight, the old enemy enter our home, with intentions of embarrassing and defeating us.

There is no denying it, they are a good team. They have some good players and are more than capable of beating any team in the league, on their day.

But we should remember who we are. We are the Sheffield Steelers. We have league winners on our team. We have players who have performed in The Show. We have players who have represented their country. We have players who are more than capable of beating anybody in this league, and if they're not up for it tonight, they never will be.

But they need our support. We cannot expect them to simply walk in and, unsupported, put on a performance. Some people of late have sat back and waited to be entertained before making some noise. We cannot afford to do that tonight.

From the moment the Thunderbirds countdown kicks in, we need to raise the roof. We need to be the extra skater on the ice. Imagine we've pulled the goalie with 30 seconds left in the playoff final - thats how important we can be, and how influential we need to be. Don't wait for the first opportunity to slag off your favourite scapegoat - even today, Gord Baldwin is a loved and respected member of the Steelers family. Support them from puck drop to hand shake. Not in a happy-clapper sense, but wait until things go majorly wrong before you slate them. Chant, sing, clap, bang drums, blow trumpets, scream, make it loud Steelers fans.

We need to give the Panthers hell as soon as they step on the ice. We may have friends in their fanbase. We may be related to some of them. From the moment the lights drop, forget that. They are the enemy. Boo them when they come on the ice. If they score, boo, If they get a powerplay, boo. When they're on the puck, boo. Don't clap them onto the ice. They should not be made to feel welcome. Mr Simms, adapt a monotonous tone when announcing positive things for them. We should not let them settle for one second. Those in 104 behind Kermit and the Panthers players - bang the plexi, shout at them, make them feel really uncomfortable.

Today could be the start of the rest of the season. The league looks unlikely - but not impossible. Until it is mathematically out of reach, believe. It starts today. Lets beat the filth, and remind everybody just who the Sheffield Steelers are.
