Meyer Scores Twice as Steelers Win in Edinburgh: (EIHL) Game Recap

Saturday 15th March 2013 - Edinburgh Capitals (12-33-3) v Sheffield Steelers (28-16-4) @ Murrayfield Ice Rink. Face off: 6pm

Sheffield's last trip to Scotland of the season having already ran out 10-3 winners in Edinburgh earlier in the season back in September and with Sheffield only needing one more win to finish above rivals Nottingham how would it turn out!

Edinburgh would get the first power play on 9:05 as Robert Dowd was called for holding of the stick but Sheffield would successfully kill the Capitals only power play of the night. The goal of the night came on 16:29 when Stefan Meyer scored assisted by Danny Meyers and Drew Fata.
End of the 1st Period: Edinburgh Capitals 0-1 Sheffield Steelers

A second period that had no goals but Sheffield was awarded a penalty shot on 26:14 which was taken by Robert Dowd but he wasn't able to extend the lead for the Steelers against Tomas Hiadlovsky in the Capitals goal who saved the penalty shot. Sheffield's first power play came on 37:16 when Daniel Macintyre was given two minutes for tripping and that was also a brief 5 on 3 power play when Michal Dobron was deemed two minutes for slashing but that penalty would also run into the third period.
End of the 2nd Period: Edinburgh Capitals 0-1 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Capitals 8-14 Steelers

Edinburgh came into the third period hoping to find a way past Frank Doyle in the Sheffield goal to level the game but it would be the Sheffield Steelers that would score a second goal to take a 2-0 lead on 48:21 as Maxime Lacroix scored assisted by Jeff Legue and Chris Blight and straight after Edinburgh's Jan Safar was given a slashing penalty but Sheffield wasn't able to make it count and just after Capitals got back to full strength they was able to pull a goal back on 51:33 when Curtis Leinweber assisted by Jade Portwood and Jordan Steel scored what was a reported a very sexy goal. Edinburgh called a time out at 58:38 in which they also pulled Hiadlovsky in search of an equaliser but on 59:52 with 8 seconds left in the goal Stefan Meyer assisted by Jeff Legue scored Steelers 3rd goal in the empty net to secure the two points.

A win that is more important than some people think not only does this win confirm we finish above the Nottingham Panthers but a win at the Motorpoint against the Stingrays will also confirm that the Sheffield Steelers will finish the season in second place and take 3rd Playoff ranking spot.
