Right so basically what I want to know is: Why are people panicking so much about us having a team ready for the new season?
It’s only the 10th July and look at it like this we have just under two months until the season starts (too long if you ask me! Getting withdrawal symptoms) and we have 11 players signed up! Yes, 11. That’s more than half the team.
It’s like in any sport - fans need to learn to be patient and give them chance to build a championship winning team. I have more faith than ever before that Gerad Adams will deliver, even if he is taking his time, but for me there’s no need to rush into things.
I mean think of it like this: if we rushed into signings then there is always the potential to miss out on a great opportunity - like a young Teemu Selanne just starting his career! (Yes I know that’s a stupid point but you get what I’m getting at right?)
It’s been mentioned several times that there are signings coming soon and because it hasn’t happened in the next few days fans have been getting on the clubs back. Gerad, though, is only trying to get the best possible players for the best price, as Steelers have always said that no player is worth breaking the budget.
Even if it means losing fan favourites like Goertzen and Fata, they are sacrifices that have to be taken. I mean, who wants to sign an overpriced average player? And that’s what you end up with sometime if you rush into signings.
It was tweeted by the Steelers today (July 10th 2014):
“Steelers head coach @GAdams55 says signings soon “fans have no need to worry, we have things in hand to deliver a very good Steelers side, every day we move forward putting the pieces together. I like what we are doing and so will the fans of that I’m sure”That’s from the boss's mouth, so all I’m asking for is enjoy the off-season, enjoy your summer because all that stress we go through during the season we need recovery time!
One reason why I think people start to worry a lot is because Panthers and Blaze seem to be making signing after signing. Well I can't speak for the Blaze - they seem to have got a lot of money from somewhere - but the Panthers have CHL obligations to fulfil starting next month, so obviously had to get their roster together earlier. So just because some teams are signing more than us doesn’t mean anyone has to worry, there’s teams with less players signed up and I don’t see their fans worrying - well not all of them anyway!
So onto incoming players, and still no word on Stefan Meyer. Some fans are beginning to irritate me! Some think he’s being disrespectful and taking the p*** but he always said he’d enjoy his summer, work hard and take his time to decide his future! He will do what’s best for him and his partner, and get what is the best deal for him!
Another player I think will be back will be Chris Blight, despite what people say or what has gone on. I think he’s one of them player we need and think that Adams will get him on side.
I think the rest of the roster spots will be filled up with new blood that we haven’t seen before. Others would like Colt King back now that Spencer has accepted a deal in the AHL, which let’s be honest is an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. Now, as much as I’d like to see King back, its all down to what Gerad wants, what we need and what the budget allows for.
