Steelers Welcome A New Sniper!!

Steelers have unveiled their latest addition to the 2014/2015 roster in the shape of American born Mike Forney.

The 6’2 left winger joins the Sheffield Steelers at 26-years-old from the Arizona Sundogs in the CHL. Forney, who is a right-handed shot was drafted back in 2006 by the Atlanta Thrasher (#80 overall) but never made an appearance for the Thrashers as he spent four or five years in between the AHL and the ECHL, playing 26 games in the AHL.

Forney was only able to 4 points (1+3) in the AHL, but in 253 ECHL the left winger has scored an amazing 222 points (87+135).

In the 2012/13 season Forney - now playing for the Colorado Eagles in the ECHL - led them in scoring while accumulating 79 points in just 71 games (35+33). He made the selection for the ECHL first All-Star team that year and then went onto sign a short term contract for Perth Thunder in the Australian league, where in only 16 games for the AIHL outfit scored an impressive 47 points (11+36).

Forney then moved from Australia to play for Villacher SV in Austria, where he continued to impress with a total of 21 points (10+11) in just 35 games, before a 10 game stint in Norway playing for Sparta Sarpsborg. With Forney joining the Steelers certainly shows Adams' intentions and that’s to get some points up the on the board - and has chosen to go with a player that is known for the doing that.

Looking on YouTube as everyone does nowadays It looks like we’re getting someone that knows where the goal is, as his stats tell us, but on the highlights I saw he was scoring some top quality goals, a proper sniper and probably what we’ve been missing the last couple of years.

We're going to get a player that’s going to give everything on the ice, who skates well and isn’t afraid to get into the D’s face which is what we want. We need a team that is going to give everything on a match night and play for what’s on the front of the jersey and not on the back.

It has also been confirmed that Forney will be wearing the #14 Jersey, last worn by Simon Ferguson in the 2012/2013 Season. I think G has signed one hell of a player and I think he’s going to be a real hit in the Elite League and will feel straight at home at the House of Steel.
