So They're Out!!

So there it is ladies and gentleman, the fixtures are out!

What does that mean? Well, we can actually start planning for the next 7 to 8 months - and if you're a football fan as well as a Hockey fan it means it makes your next 7 to 8 months very frustrating and expensive!

I think we’ve all had a very good look at the fixtures and if not you can find them here.

So looking at the fixtures, and compared to last season, in my opinion this is the best fixtures we’ve had for years. I know a lot of people agree as at home this season were going to have 19 games at home on a Saturday. It will be nice to get the old term back “Saturday Night is Hockey Night”

In addition to that, at home we’ll also have 4 games on a Sunday and 2 games on a Friday - and that’s just at the arena. Then, you remember about little old Ice Sheffield where we’ll play 2 games on a Saturday, 1 on a Sunday and 4 Wednesday games. I feel sorry for Edinburgh, as once again both their games in Sheffield are on a Wednesday so I’m sure they’ll have a lovely following...

Sarcasm aside, we start the season at home to the Dundee Stars at the arena on the 6th September where it’ll also be the banner raising night! None of us will be forgetting that any time soon will we now?

We first take on arch rivals Nottingham away from home on the 20th September, then they visit Sheffield on the 4th October.

Last season we had no double headers at home - this year we have one against Belfast and Braehead. This is followed a week later by a double header in Glasgow to face Braehead in mid-November.

That’ll be the second Scotland weekend as the first one is at the start of November, which is the same as last year. Edinburgh on the Saturday and then Dundee on the Sunday. Let’s hope we see all of the Edinburgh game this year.

We start the Christmas period with a double header with Hull home and away, after which the real stuff starts when on Boxing Day we face the Panthers at home, and just 24 hours later we travel to Nottingham for part two of the Christmas cracker.

One of the highlights of the season is the Belfast weekend and that comes straight after New Year on the 2nd January. So, is anyone else thinking about New Year’s Eve in Belfast? I know I certainly am :)

The fixtures then start to come thick and fast and when the Challenge Cup final comes along at Sheffield on 8th March which will also be the only fixture in the league that day. That is the day after a home game for the Steelers at home to Belfast! So if Belfast are in the final, a good weekend for them and I said Belfast would be close by on the 7th March to save money on the off-chance that they did make the final, but let’s hope we're in it.

Steelers end the season at home to Cardiff on a Saturday night but finish their away campaign the night before on the Friday away to Nottingham! Title decider? Let’s hope so.

The playoff quarter-finals will be on the last weekend of March and the best part of the season! The showpiece, the playoff finals weekend will be held on Easter Weekend on the first weekend of April!

So now it’s all out in the open get in touch people! What fixtures are you most looking forward to this season and why?
