5 Things We Learnt This Weekend - 7th September

Well we finally had some competitive hockey this weekend - and I don't just mean in the fact they were league and cup games.

Fantastic efforts all around the league, pretty close games all around, and most importantly for us, the Steelers claimed two points in the Challenge Cup in south Wales. But what do we take away from this weekend?

1. The Steelers can win in the BBT.
Something I forgot last season with our many failings on our travels to Cardiff. Sounds like it was a tough game, and we fought for everything. A good start to our CC campaign.

2. Teams are not going to take much away from Scotland.
And if they do, they're going to be battered and bruised - see the Giants' depleted roster after zig-zagging the country this weekend. Edinburgh seem competitive, Coventry left Fife with a narrow 1-0 win, and Braehead look to be offensively stacked. Could this be the year we see the Gardiner teams actually mix it up with the big boys?

3. We may have read Hull wrong.
Taking Cardiff to overtime last night. Going for a never say die approach tonight against Braehead. We all expected them to be whipping boys - and to be fair they still might be - but they could be a heart and soul team who just refuse to give up.

4. The Panthers could leave their CHL campaign with 6 points.
Hamburg seem just as bad as they are. Nottingham could well sneak a win or two from their games against them. Go on lads.

5. This season is going to be very entertaining.
Mark Thomas had a fight. Mark Thomas. Mark "nosebleed past the blueline" Thomas. Had a fight. Yeah, I had to triple-check too. Pascal dropped the gloves. The team stood up for each other. Its bloody nice to see isn't it?
