Weekend Preview - 7/9/14 (@Devils CC)

Here it is folks, the start of our season, when we finally get to see some arena ho...oh.

Never mind, our season still starts this weekend, as we face a visit to south Wales.

Cardiff Devils
The Devils come into the season on the back of a topsy-turvy pre-season, trading wins (and blows) with Belfast before an unlikely comeback against Coventry on Wednesday night. All of which counts for nothing, but its nice to know their form.

Team News
As we all know by now, Tyler Mosienko misses out due to his 5 game ban imposed by the IIHF. Add this to Jonathan Phillips' absence due to an appendectomy, as well as Luke Ferrara playing for Peterborough, and the arrival (albeit begrudgingly) of Devin Didiomete is necessary, otherwise we'd only have 8 forwards. Colton Fretter is in the lineup this weekend having arrived in the UK.

Andy Jaszczyk is likely to be backup, as Geoff Woolhouse admitted on the webcast last weekend that he's still a few weeks away from match fitness.

There's been no reports of any injuries in the Devils camp, so I'd expect them to be full strength.

Prediction
As it's a Challenge Cup game, as well as being the season opener, it's hard to tell what's going to happen. Will the team gel? Who knows? I just hope for a committed performance for the travelling Orange Army to be proud of.

Cardiff Devils 3-2 Sheffield Steelers
