NIHL Weekend Preview - Sens & Spartans

There is a buzz around Sheffield's NIHL teams this week with the announcement of the inaugural Sheffield Winter Classic Game: Sheffield Spartans v Sheffield Senators on Saturday 27th December 2014, 4.15pm face off @ Ice Sheffield.

However their minds will be more focused on other things this weekend as both teams face tricky home games but ones that all promise to be crackers!

First up it's Sheffield Senators this Saturday at 4.30pm at Ice Sheffield when they take on NIHL2 Laidler reigning champions, and this season's league leaders Solihull Barons. Sens will be keen to pit their wits against the best team in the their league and will be encouraged by recent performances and results including a gritty performance in defeat at Solihull a few weeks ago. Sens were unlucky on home ice last season and rightly feel that this could be the time to put one over the Barons.

Next up at Ice Sheffield on Saturday at 7.30pm it will be Sheffield Spartans who, after a disjointed pre-season and first couple of games finally started to click last Sunday with a determined & spirited win in Whitley Bay. The lads are on a high at the moment and will be looking to continue where they left off last Sunday against NIHL 1 Moralee reigning champions, Solway Sharks. It won't be easy, games against the Sharks rarely are but they have a tendency to be entertaining games with no reason why that won't be the case.

Spartans face a day off on Sunday but Senators are back in action at Ice Sheffield with an early 1.30pm face off against last season's bogey team, Hull Stingrays. It's fair to say that 4 losses to Hull ultimately cost Senators a play off spot last season and the lads will be focused on ensuring that there are no such slip ups this season. Games between Senators & Hull are always hard fought, physical encounters and with both teams making promising starts to the season it sets things up nicely for another decent game of hockey.

Why not pop down to cheers the lads on...£5 entry with applicable concessions make it great value for money...#allsheffield
