SIHA Roundup 4/10/14

We continue our focus on Sheffield hockey with the start of a new feature from Sheffield Spartans fan Philip Holden.

Philip regularly watches the junior teams within SIHA and will report for Frozen Steel about them. Welcome aboard.

We start with the Spartans' game last night vs Whitley Bay.

Sheffield Spartans drew 2-2 with Whitley Warriors at Ice Sheffield in the NIHL Moralee Conference.

After a goalless first period Warriors took the lead through Dean Holland, who did well under pressure to score, but Spartans hit back in the final period with two quick fire goals to take the lead; Stuart Brittle bagging the first followed by Dave Pyatt to give the Spartans the edge.

But, Ben Richards split the Sheffield defence with a lovely pass to find Harry Harley who made no mistake to tie the game up at 2-2 for Warriors, which was the final score and a fair result too.

Earlier in the day Sheffield Steel City 18's B lost to Sutton Sting 4-1. Despite a promising start, they lost their way, as Sting got into their stride to run out comfortable winners in the end with both teams guilty of missing some good chances. But there can be no arguments against Sting deserving the points.

Two Sheffield junior teams travelled up to Billingham to record solid wins. Lasers 12's A won 13-2 whilst Stormers 14's A enjoyed a 4-0 victory.

Sheffield Greyhounds 16's B put in a terrific team performance to overcome Solihull Barons with a creditable 8-2 road win in what was a mixed bag of results for Sheffield's Academy teams.
