Stars Outshone By Committed Steelers - Steelers 6-3 Stars (EIHL, 15/10/14)

Jonathan Phillips recorded his 400th EIHL point as part of a man of the match performance, as the Steelers had to come from behind twice to beat a resilient Dundee Stars 6-3 at the Motorpoint Arena.

The Stars took the lead after just 22 seconds, John Mitchell finding the net after a sloppy start from the Steelers, who were only behind for a minute - Tyler Mosienko finding Rod Sarich out front for Roddy's first goal since the 12/13 season.
The Stars would take a lead into the first intermission though, Rob Ricci finishing off a lovely feed from Chris Blight, making his first appearance in Sheffield since lifting the Playoff trophy in April.

The Steelers came out with renewed vigour in the 2nd though, with Gord Baldwin levelling things up around 29 minutes in. Mathieu Roy tipped in a Dustin Kohn blueliner on the PP to take the lead, which was doubled by another PPG, this time Phillips finishing off a lovely move by Mosienko.

The Stars would not give up though, and pulled one back through Matt Ryan on the PP.

This didn't deter the Steelers though, and 46 minutes in, Mosienko did his weaving around the D job and put a gorgeous shot past Marc Cheverie to restore the two goal lead.

Frank Doyle was put under a bit of pressure late on, particularly during a 4 minute powerplay, but stood firm enough for Jay Latulippe to wrap things up late on with the empty netter.

I think we had another gear or two to be honest. Playing short-benched is never easy, and we sure did make hard work of it at times. But, we kept scoring opportunities to a minimum (Dundee scored some lovely goals) and in the end our quality shone through - Tyler Mosienko is different class.

Safe travels to the Dundee fans who made the trip down. Tom will be back tomorrow with his detailed match report.
