A big game at the SkyDome a game in which both teams feel they have to win and it was the visitors who would take the points home after losing their last five league games they owed their fans a big performance and it’s what they gave. After a dominating start by the visitors it was the home side that took the lead while on the man advantage for a Mosienko hooking call assisted by Goertzen who shot the puck it deflected in front of Ice and bounced of Doyle nicely enough for Ben Arnt to slot it into the empty net for a 1-0 lead at 12:12. Sheffield continued to work hard and got their rewards at 17:37 when Fretter had the puck on the left wing and played a cross ice pass to Forney who had the opportunity to shot but he forced Brian Stewart into making a move before playing to Mathieu Roy who re-direct into the open goal for 1-1. It didn’t take Steelers long to take the lead when timed at 19:18 Dowd received the puck of Mosienko before skating onto the blue line before firing a slap shot that came back of Stewart before deflecting off the skate of Mike Egener and into the net to give Sheffield a 2-1 lead which they took into the 1st Intermission.
End of the 1st Period: Coventry Blaze 1–2 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Blaze 6-12 Steelers

Sheffield thought they had scored early on in the 2nd period when Fretter went close around the goal before Roy fired one against the post and it looked as if Forney had put the rebound in but with Stewart and two blaze skaters also in the goal Hicks couldn’t see the puck and the goal line didn’t come on either so the official announcement was no goal. Sheffield would eventually score a third though and it was while they was on top when Coventry just couldn’t get the puck off them but the goal came at 34:21 when O’Connor got the puck off the draw and managed to get his shot away from the blue line that rebounded off Stewart and it fell nicely for Legue who had the easy job of putting it into an open goal and it was 3-1 to Sheffield as it’s how it stayed going into the second interval.
End of the 2nd Period: Coventry Blaze 1–3 Sheffield Steelers
Shots on Goal: Blaze 10–13 Steelers

Third period got started and the Steelers were just 20 minutes from stopping the poor run in the league and it was almost a perfect session for the visitors as they outshot the home side 14-2, There was a fight early one as Colton Fretter and Steven Goertzen dropped the gloves and both players seem to land some big punches each but it was the Coventry man that got the takedown but Sheffield continued to dominate the session but the only goal of the period came to the home side and due to the lack of action you can probably say Doyle was cold so not 100% into the game with not having much to do but it came about DaCosta jumped out of the box and managed to turn it over and the puck dropped nicely to former Steelers captain Steven Goertzen who fired a wrist shot in front of goal and it was suddenly 3-2 at 58:50. Coventry pulled Stewart in the dying seconds as well as calling a time out but couldn’t find an equaliser and Sheffield held on to win and secure a vital two points and if it wasn’t for Brian Stewart then Sheffield could have had a lot more goals as the Coventry netminder was just outstanding.
