Big Match Preview - Braehead (Home)

After a Saturday night trip down the M1 to the NIC, Steelers return home on Sunday to entertain our friends from Western Scotland. That's right folks, it's the first game of the new season against Ryan Finnerty's Braehead Clan. Games between us and our purple relations are always entertain and this promises to be no exception whatsoever.

Helping FSB preview the game is our good friend Kris "K-Wall" Brown. Yes indeed, Kris does pass a distinct resemblance to the former Panthers netminder.

FSB: How would you describe last season for the Clan?

KB: Last season was  like a rollercoaster really. It was such a thrill to be number 1 for some many weeks, and then like all good rides it derails. Clan messed up and it was their turn to suffer what is now called "The Edinburgh Curse" (basically the Capitals beat somebody and it costs the opponent a trophy).

FSB: The win in the CHL against ERC Ingolstadt was incredible to say the least. What did it mean to you as a fan and the Club as a whole?

KB: That night purely defined the Clan as a hockey club. Sure there were 2 empty netters but we actually took the game to the German side, forcing them to pull their netminder so they can finish on top of the Group - that's something else. This shows that when the Clan their collective minds to winning a game then there's nothing stopping this "wee" team from Glasgow.

FSB: Up to last Sunday, the 4th of October, Clan had not won in 5 games. Were you worried?

KB: Personally yes and no. If you look back right the way to  Season 1, there was  a bad run. Season 3: there was an even worse run. But look positively, it's still early days and we still haven't hit the business end of the season.

FSB: A lot of people think that Chris Holt will be the difference between success and failure this season. Would you agree with that statement?

KB: God yes! Holt has been we have stayed close in some of these recent games. There's definitely more of him to come but it takes a good D in front of him as well.

FSB: This is (Ryan) Finnerty's third season in charge. Would you say he is under pressure to deliver some serious silverware this season?

KB: Ryan has done more for the Clan on and off the ice than any coach ever before him. Success is on the cards but it just takes time. Mr Black knows that from experience, sticking with a coach to win a league after 57 years wait.

FSB: Who are the key players for both sides in tonight's game, and what is your game prediction with a scoreline please?

KB: Do you need any more explanations? It's Holt vs Plante, and whoever comes out on top in that duel then his side will win the game. Likewise Pitt vs Mosienko, the battle of top scorers. Score Prediction? Clan to win 3-2.
