Big Match Preview - Fife (Away)

Saturday night hockey for the Steelers and with it, a long road trip. After breaking their Edinburgh hoodoo on Wednesday night, the boys make their first visit of the season to Kirkcaldy and "The Auld Barn" which is the home of last Sunday's Arena visitors: the Fife Flyers. Can we extend our little hot streak to three?

One thing is for sure, this will not be an easy game whatsoever. Fife ice Arena is a throw back to the olden days with the crowd very close to the action. And when that building is rocking, that building becomes a pretty hostile and very intimidating place to play and more so - win in. Many teams have come unstuck there, Braehead have been shut out there already, so as they say forewarned is forearmed.

Games against the Flyers, especially here, are close run affairs with very little to separate the two sides. If we win there, it's usually by the odd goal and I can't see this little statistic changing tonight at all. It could conceivably go to overtime and penalty shots easily enough which considering we have the long drive back and another BFG at 5pm tomorrow in the House Of Steel: that would be the last thing that is on Paul Thompson and the players minds.

So can we win there and keep up the pressure on those above us? Course we can but it will be a right battle. Flyers might not have former NHL players or draft picks in their team but what they do is a work ethic that means they will scrap and challenge every puck, and in player-assistant coach Danny Stewart: they have the archetypal rink rat who will do anything to get under the skins of those big name players in opposition. This is something we need to be prepared for.

I can see both goalies being very busy all night and this could be a real test for Pinc as he will have never encountered something like this before. I'm going for us to win in overtime here, and by the odd goal in five. We just need to come out of there with no injuries or daft suspensions, get ready for a bit of a war.
