It's time to sit back and think through the top five things I learnt this week:
1> Halfway point - Do you buy the match night programme, and did you
notice we've flipped onto the second column of the fixtures? Ignoring
the pre-season and CHL then we're 19 wins and 9 losses, which is
cracking going. Unfortunately too many of the wins were in the Cup group
stages and too few in the league to get too excited.
2> Panthers highlights show - Did you notice that each Panthers goal
was shown from three angles, whilst the Steelers goals were shown from
distance? Guess the disallowed goal was good too, as this wasn't shown
from every angle to prove they were right! Petty, but at least the
commentator was slightly less biased than GM the GM.
3> Coventry Blaze shot count stats - Rob Plaister made some good
points in his recent blog - most teams outshoot the Blaze. Playoff final
v Steelers 37:20. Playoff semi. v Belfast 41:29. Playoff qtr. v
Nottingham 47:28. The system works when the goalie is hot so our defeat
on Saturday despite out shooting them 48:18 isn't such a mugging after
all, just good D.
4> Hicksey - I think he looked confused when he got some applause
coming into the ice last night, but after that I hardly noticed him
which was exactly what it should be.
5> Be prepared Jace - After that lousy Eddy I think he should forfeit
the Man of the Match - I'd have chosen Mosienko anyway, he was awesome,
chasing every puck, scoring a greasy one, and setting up Desi
brilliantly for the third goal, and you can rely on him for a great
Victory lap.
One final thought - only one team entered Sunday's games with a two game
winning streak, and that was the Blaze who promptly lost to the Storm.
Very few four point weekends happening right now, so we're on a streak
of one, one behind the best in the league, and a chance to go joint top
in that statistic on Wednesday!
