Elite Report: Week 2 Review

Second weekend of action behind us, and quite a mixed bag of results. Some expected, some not so but it just goes to prove that the standards of the EIHL (welcome Brian McGrattan by the way) are getting better and anybody can beat anyone on a given night. So let's look back.

Friday night saw Panthers take on Dundee in the DIA, a game I personally thought that would be a very close one considering that roster Marc LeFebvre has recruited against that wily fox known as Corey. It was a close one, judging by the shot count but Nottingham were just that wee bit more clinical in front of net. Dundee's goal with just 14 seconds left of the game, just pure consolation.

Into Saturday now, and Panthers played their second game of their three game trip as they visited little sister Braehead. Another close game shot count wise, but once again Panthers more clinical. Some kind of pattern forming here? Well it started well for Clan but Panthers took their opportunities. And that's how it goes unfortunately.

We fully expected Belfast to beat Flyers based on the fact that the visitors record in the O isn't overally fantastic. But this new look Fife team gave it a good go didn't they despite having only 13 shots on Stephen Murphy's goal. It took an empty netter from Mike Forney to seal the deal for Walser's men, and avenge the loss in Fife the weekend previous.

Match Verdict: Giants Regulation   Our Verdict: Giants Regulation

OK, we didn't see this one coming. We knew ourselves (Steelers) that Manchester look much improved this season but Cardiff certainly didn't expect this bump in the road. Inspired by Darian Dziurzynski, the Storm have got one of their best wins since coming back into the league last year. Hats off to Pach, definitely left Mr Lord with something to ponder over.

Match Verdict: Storm Regulation   Our Verdict: Devils Regulation

Now onto Sunday, and we'll summarise it in one paragraph (as we will do for the rest of the season). Well it's still unhappy times for Finner, his old club certainly took the previous night's result out on them and ran out comprehensive winners. Panthers ran out of steam in their 3 in 3 and Flyers continued their improvement with a good win. Giants completed a great weekend with an overtime win over Danny Stewart's Blaze whilst Dundee cruised to an expected win in Edinburgh still missing Travis Fullerton.

Match Verdicts against Our Verdicts: 2 spot on (Dundee, Fife), halfway right (Cardiff, we thought they would go to OT and win) and 1 completely wrong (we predicted Coventry winning).

So overall the predictions stand at 11 games predicted with 6 absolutely dead on the proverbial money. Not a bad effort so far, don't you think?
