Time once again to dust off the old Elite League crystal ball and look to predict successful outcomes of week eight of the season. As mentioned in the review of week seven, week eight began last night in Braehead and Edinburgh. Of the two games, we correctly said Edinburgh would win in regulation but Devils steamrolled the Clan in Renfrew. So a 50 per cent success rate so far.
With Panthers on their Continental Cup jaunt in Espana, there's a distinct possibility the Elite League might have a different look come the end of Sunday night. But who knows? Let's get predicting...
Friday night:
Belfast Giants v Coventry Blaze
Two sides wanting points for differing reasons. Belfast come into this game with a four point weekend behind them, and if that's not a confidence booster then what is. Blaze on the other side are struggling again and are in ninth place. Danny Stewart needs to arrest the slide, Blaze natives are getting restless once more. Verdict: Belfast regulation win and more misery for Danny.
Saturday night:
Belfast Giants v Coventry Blaze
The two sides meet again 24 hours, and this will be the third meeting in just seven days. You'd think they would know each other then. Is it going to be different to Friday. Sorry Blaze fans, a double case of the Belfast blues is gonna happen. Verdict: Another Belfast regulation win.
Braehead Clan v Dundee Stars
Bar that midweek reverse at home to a resurgent Cardiff, Clan have shown signs that they are getting slowly back on the track. That is surely going to ease some of the pressure on Finner. Furby and his Stars are underachieving, and it won't change here. Verdict: Clan regulation win, Stars to remain rooted.
Cardiff Devils v Edinburgh Capitals
Whilst Edinburgh have been in, by their own admission, superb form - can you really see them upsetting the Devils in Ice Arena Wales? I can't honestly, but stranger things have happened. The winning feeling to stay with Andrew "That's just phenomenal" Lord. Verdict: Devils to win in regulation and handsomely too.
Sunday night:
Coventry Blaze v Cardiff Devils
As much it would be nice to see Coventry get something out of the weekend, I just feel they are going to have a painful third game in as many nights. However games between these two are feisty and usually pretty damn close too. Verdict: Devils to put out the Blaze with overtime needed to settle it.
Dundee Stars v Braehead Clan
A return back in Tayside for these two protagonists, and can Stars get that winning habit back? It all depends if they are in the right frame of mind to do so. The losing run can't continue, and I'm sure that the message that Furby will be saying. Verdict: Stars to shine at last on home ice and in regulation too.
Manchester Storm v Edinburgh Capitals
The Storm's only game of the weekend against their Conference rivals. Edinburgh certainly have what it takes to get something out of it but Storm will be fresh enough to ensure the majority in the Shelter will be going home happy. Verdict: Storm to reign with a regulation home win.
So that's how I see the weekend unfolding in the other matches. How about you?
