After a lovely pair of wins took us to 3 from 3 in the
league, we’re a happy bunch in Frozen Steel towers, and here’s a sideways
glance at the top five things I learnt this weekend:
- Defence on the attack – T’was great that we only conceded twice in two games, with Moose showing some of his class, and the D playing a bit more Defence. So with recent lessons learnt, and a 3:1 lead to protect, what was Bjorklund doing pinching forward and nabbing the rebound fourth? Worked beautifully this time, and it’s tricky to knock a team for keeping the pace up whilst ahead, but wonder if our excitable D need chains to stop them going too deep when closing down games?
- Broken Ben – As the best scoring Brit in the EIHL we’re going to miss his blue-line bombs, and I hope he’s back quickly, but it will be interesting to see if the lines become more retrospective and conservative in his absence? Hopefully the extra responsibility will force Davey and Zack to come to the fore.
- Schultz on schedule – A goal a game in the league puts Schultz (and Valdix) on a nice 52 goal projection, and if he keeps that up I’ll stop moaning about his off the puck play. However, we can’t permit such liberties with the Eddy – shouldn’t short-change the fans, nor the players who have gone before you - so we want more effort put into that Jesse!
- No sweat Brad – Top choice for shirt off his back I thought, as it’s unlikely to have any battle scars and it won’t have needed wringing out and washing the moment it got home. Very sensible.
- Frail Forney – My buddy Robert @steelersstats can probably confirm / deny this, but has Forney ever had a good game against us? I remember taunting him during the away games last January, and last night he was ham fisted and error prone. “What a waste of money!”
My final thought to leave you with is in again the theme of
#hockeyfamilystickstogether as we applaud our Media Team (they do do more right
than wrong) in inviting Blake McCaughey across to visit the House of Steel. The
Giants fans supported Amy, so we’re more than happy to support one of theirs. I’m
pretty sure he would have preferred a different result, but I like to think our
kind spirited cheering of his name in Amy’s 21st minute, led by RTB,
generated the good karma that resulted in our first goal in the 22nd!
Good vibes all-round and you’d have to be rather dickish to think otherwise.
