From The Editor's Chair: Edition 8

So we experienced a split weekend with the Devils? If you had listened to the podcast last week then you will know I would have taken that before the weekend's action started. What's had me thinking about this time? Read on and find out.

Views definitely nothing to do with Sheffield Steelers so there...
  • Great win in IAW: That was some result in Ice Arena Wales wasn't it? Didn't see that one coming I tell you. If we had got a point I would have been happy but that performance there certainly had me purring with delight for 55 minutes. We played like a team out to make a statement, and did so. One visit, one regulation win. Stuff of dreams isn't it?
  • Warning signs though: However we kind of switched off for the final 5 minutes and let the Devils have a flattering scoreline in their own building. That kind of transmitted itself into the majority of Sunday, it was like a car that had no petrol in its tank. And we all know what happens when that occurs?  This leads me quite conveniently on point number three..
  • Too many passengers Sunday: Unfortunately we had too many passengers on Sunday and that seriously cost us in the end. If we had played like we know we can then we would have had another four point weekend under our belts. Only a select few can count themselves lucky to be considered to come out of the weekend with some overall credit, and if you have a lot of players off form then you will scarcely end up with the W.
  • Fitzy is a leader: This man is a proper warrior and the kind of player who wish is on your side. Nobody can say that he did not win both fights; he clearly did. Granted Mark Louis is a tough cookie but Fitzy certainly made him look ordinary in each contest. We know full well that Fitzy stands no nonsense, especially when he protects his team-mates. Remember the fight with a broken hand last season? That sums everything about the man's character.
  • Better later than never: I really should have announced this in the first edition of October, but like I am prone to - I had a senior moment until now. My personal player of the month is...Jesse Schultz! This guy had a slow start to his Steelers career, even admitted it himself. But he has silenced those doubters, especially those who were behind me at the start of the season (now missing, and probably eating large slices of humble pie) with a string of sniping strikes. We might have finally found Joey's replacement: an out-and-out goalscorer.

That's me for another week. What's your take on it? As usual, I don't expect flurries of agreement - but that's the wonder of free speech.
