Time once more to sit in the Editor's Chair and offer some opinion which you might agree or disagree with. I'm bound to upset somebody with my views but hey, that's the wonder of speaking your mind.
Remember these opinions are mine, not of Sheffield Steelers IHC.
What a mixed weekend that was. From the scare in Edinburgh to being shut out by the Stars on Tayside. Just goes to show one thing to me, and I've said it before too, anyone can beat anyone on any given night yet my Twitter feed last night (Sunday) was clogged with moan after moan. Jeezo folks, we've just lost our first game in six - way some of you were reacting was like as if the world was about to end.
With a decision to play just four recognised defencemen after the Rattlesnake was deemed too ill to play, the four who featured racked up some serious minutes this weekend. Some of them will have clocked up ice time over the two nights which is equivalent to playing a full game. No wonder they were literally dead on their skates by the time of the final buzzer went in Tayside. Normally they would have had about 20 or so minutes in a full rotation most weekends, here they were playing about three times as much ice time.
Would you have the energy to last that long, probably not. Sure we concede a few goals but then again so does everyone else. It's not a problem that is threatening to derail the season yet, the league has many twists and turns in it to come and we're only in mid November. I do have reservations about one of the six but to publicly slate the said player here is not what I am going to do. Anyone who knows me, will also know whom I am on about. I'm not the only who has this thought; others I talk to at games share the same sentiment.
Those in Scotland last weekend also saw the debut of our new signing, Yared Hagos. By all accounts, he did alright considering it was his first competitive game this season. Scoring 3:35 into your first appearance certainly gets an instant seal of approval, and although he tired eventually - he's made a good and positive start to his career here. I'm looking forward to seeing his home debut this Saturday coming against the Panthers. He looks like a shrewd addition to the ranks. Let's hope he continues to impress us all.
The absence of Valdix certainly isn't yaldi to quote Kevin Bridges. For such an imposing guy, he has a very good touch and complements both Dowdy and Levi well. I bet those two certainly miss the Swede's presence on their line. This injury, which we have had heard nothing about (smart decision not to say what it is as it could give opponents something to target once Andi is fit to return), has come at an unfortunate time for our number #12 as he was really starting to hit form, scoring and creating chances. Hope to see you back in the team soon Andi.
Well that's it for now, and the mini rant of sorts. Am I right or wrong? I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have on these subjects or anything else Steelers-wise. I'll be back next week with more ramblings for you to digest.
