From The Editor's Chair: Edition 16

I've enjoyed making the article a little bit more interesting these last few weeks. So I'm going to continue the theme for at least this week and next. This week's article is about statistics, yes damn statistics, and here's some facts from the season so far. Details up to and including last night's games (league only).

Ready? Here goes...
  1. Powerplay - We all go on about how rubbish the powerplay is, some of call it "The one man advantage penalty kill" to insert some humour into it. Yet believe it or not, it's not as bad as we think it is. Our PP percentage of 21.62% is actually the second best in the league, and it is only marginally behind Cardiff's. So next time you bemoan it, think again.
  2. Don't mess with Desi - With a 5 minute penalty for scrapping with Josh Batch last night, Desi maintained that he's the most penalised player in the EIHL this season. Our French-Canadian number #41 has 85 PiMs in 18 games. The much hyped Brian McGrattan lies second with 71 PiMs and Fitzy is fifth with 50
  3. Low on points charts - This season we seem to have the most offensive set up we've had in a number of years but no Steeler lies in the top five when it comes to points so far. Mathieu Roy is our best with 10+10 but that's only good enough to have him joint ninth with Dundee defenceman Felix-Antoine Poulin. Braehead Scott Pitt leads this category with 15+16; in fact three Clan players make up the top four places!
  4. Moooooose- Like every netminder this season, Moose has had games where things haven't gone right. However, he's still one of the best in the country. Whilst he's not recorded a shutout yet (neither has Ben Bowns surprisingly enough), he's third behind Bowns and Stephen Murphy for GAA (Moose is on 2.48, leader Bowns has 2.30) and second to Shane Owen for save percentages (Moose 91.7, Owen 92.5). A very important piece of the puzzle.
  5. Best fans in the league - I'll close this article with a statistic which is going to annoy the heck out of Gary Moran and those Bears fans down the M1. For years on end, Panthers have been saying we have the largest average attendance in the EIHL. Well not anymore! In our 8 league games, we average 5729; Panthers average 5557 having played 2 home league games more. That must please Uncle Tony.
Well that makes interesting reading doesn't it? Which of them sticks out for you the most, personally I found the powerplay one the one that surprised me the most.
