Big Match Preview - The Weekend Ahead

Wasn't a bad weekend on the ice for Paul Thompson, Jerry Andersson and the team was it? Results going our way, ourselves getting a four point weekend from a very stubborn opponent in Coventry. The title race is getting more exciting each and every week with the top three starting to create a gap between themselves and fourth placed Panthers. But there's still a great deal of hockey to be played.

This weekend we have another weekend that could put us firmly in contention more to challenge or cast us a bit adrift if results go against us. Nothing less than three points will do for me these days, Sunday's game being absolute vital.

Saturday night and we're back across the car park and into the en-suite. Visiting Ice Sheffield are these guys:

Yes it's the Purple Army, and despite results not being great recently (again) for Ryan Finnerty's men a good deal of the Purple brigade will be residence. Clan have won before at Ice Sheffield so they know what to do and have the players to do said job. This is another strategically placed banana skin in our quest to haul in Cardiff and Belfast and secure the three-peat. We need to be on our game against them and continue the excellent form we have built up.

Going into Sunday, I said it was vital earlier on in the piece and it is. We're on the road and to a place which success has seemingly eluded us.

A trip to Ice Arena Wales waits, and every Steeler and his/her dog knows we have to get a result here. Lose and it doesn't bear thinking about what the standings will be like. We win Saturday and Sunday, we gain a minimum of a point on the Devils (depending on how they go on at Coventry Saturday night and how we win in IAW) and depending on what Belfast do too (they have back-to-back home games on Friday and Saturday nights against Panthers and Stars): we could be handily placed come Sunday night. But we need to get a result in Cardiff, that's the imperative! We've gotten close recently, now it is time to redress the balance and skate away from the Principality with the points. It's not beyond us, we just need to keep believing.

Predictions? I'll go for a 3-1 win against the Clan and a 3-2 (don't care how, regulation would be ideal) triumph finally in South Wales. How about you?
