Elite Report - Week 21 Review

We've been on a skid for the latest couple of weeks in the prediction game. Have we managed to get back on track this week just gone? Time to find out I suppose, plus an announcement on how this particular column is set to be revamped next season. The idea based on a certain prediction game I've seen elsewhere.

Friday night and a couple of games. We didn't start off too bad with a 50% success rate thanks to the Clan managing to squeak home against the Flyers. Now if the Panthers had completed their comeback and forced overtime then we might have had a 100 per cent on the cards. Alas not...

Saturday, and three games played. One out of three recorded thanks to the Giants shutting out the Stars in the "O" and convincingly so. Manchester could have made it two if they had scored the overtime winner in that entertaining; to say the least; encounter up in Kirkcaldy. Whilst Devils avoided the banana skin we placed in front of them after a goalfest again featuring the Coventry Blaze.

And so onto Sunday then. Worst day of the three it has to be said as we got nothing right. Panthers had their party pooped on by the Flyers, Blaze shut out the Stars (second blank in as many days for Marc LeFebvre's men) and the Caps won in regulation in their match against the Storm.

Therefore after week number twenty-one, we scored a disappointing two out of eight which is galling after such a reasonable start on the Friday. Plenty of near misses but no cigar as they proverbially say. Overall we've dipped again to 62 out of 169 and a percentage of .367 which indicates there's work to do definitely if we want to get to .400 or more before the season concludes.

Now for the announcement...

After sharing emails with Tony, my trusty co-editor, we're gonna revamp this next season. However, with a tweak we're going to do it like the football prediction one on the BBC website featuring Mark Lawrenson. It'll be me versus you. Each week, we make predictions and score points accordingly. It's going to be 50 points if the result (regulation, OT or PS) is spot on, 10 points if we predict the right team to win but not the correct format and obviously zero if we get completely wrong. So do you fancy your chances, I'm ideally looking a different opponent every week so get your name in the hat already..
